A CELEBRATION OF THE LIFE AND WORK OF TOMĂS MAC SĂOMĂIN
File, ĂșrscĂ©alaĂ, fear aistĂ, fear conspĂłide, eagarthĂłir, iriseoir, aistritheoir agus duine den bheagĂĄn scrĂbhneoirĂ radacacha Gaeilge a raibh taithĂ idirnĂĄisiĂșnta aige ab ea TomĂĄs Mac SĂomĂłin. Bhuaigh a chnuasach gearrscĂ©alta Cinn Lae SeangĂĄin duais Oireachtais sa bhliain 2005 agus an bhliain dĂĄr gcionn bronnadh an phrĂomhdhuais Oireachtais ar a ĂșrscĂ©al fantaisĂochta, An Tionscadal. DĂĄnta, scĂ©alta agus ailt leis foilsithe in an-chuid irisĂ mĂłide aistriĂșchĂĄin Ăłn gCatalĂłinis agus Ăłn SpĂĄinnis. Cailleadh Ă© i mbliana. Fathach i measc scrĂbhneoirĂ na Gaeilge.
Political activist, poet, critic, essayist, novelist, scientist and translator, TomĂĄs Mac SĂomĂłin was a uniquely eclectic voice. A biology researcher, he also edited the literary journal Comhar for many years. His fiction includes the darkly humourous short story collection CĂn Lae SeangĂĄin, and the science fantasy novel An Tionscadal. The Broken Harp: Identity and Language in Modern Ireland is a piercing study of the effects of colonialism on Irish linguistic and cultural identity. His 21 DĂĄn/Poemes/Poemas (CoiscĂ©im, 2011) is a selection of his translations of his own poems in Irish, Catalan and Spanish. He died in Spain in February 2022.Â
Tonight Aontas na ScrĂbhneoirĂ and IMRAM are proud to celebrate his life in the company of poets, writers and critics, including fear an tĂ Cathal PĂłirtĂ©ir, MĂcheĂĄl Ă hUanachĂĄin, MĂcheĂĄl Mac Aonghusa, MĂĄirĂn Nic Eoin, Celia de FrĂ©ine, Ăamon Ă CiosĂĄin.Â
